● This is a Tatsumi-ryu wooden sword made of red oak.
● Tatsumi-ryu is an ancient Japanese martial art that forms the core of iaido and kenjutsu, founded by Tatsumi Sankyo in the early 1500s during the Muromachi period. It developed as a secret martial art of the Sakura domain (Chiba Prefecture) during the Edo period and is designated as an intangible cultural asset by Chiba Prefecture, maintaining its tradition of approximately 500 years.
● The main features of the Tatsumi-ryu wooden sword are its thickness and deep curve.
● Compared to the similarly thick and log-like Tenshin-ryu wooden sword, this sword has a large kissaki (tip), a ken-mine (sword-shaped ridge), and a semi-round finish on the tsukagashira (pommel), giving it a high-quality appearance.
● Made with only fully dried domestic materials, this is a high-quality finish produced in the workshop of a traditional craftsman in Miyakonojo City, Miyazaki Prefecture.
