Bass Drum Slim 22-inch (Custom Modified) Junk ④

Unused, new old stock 22-inch bass drum shell of unknown manufacturer (unused) was cut by the owner to a depth of approximately 10 inches (approx. 22 cm) from the front hoop to the back hoop (Photo 14), creating a slim 22-inch custom-modified bass drum.

Parts other than the shell were collected new and used to create this amateur-made item. Absolutely do not purchase if you are seeking authentic bass drum sound and construction or perfection.
Please purchase only if you understand that this is a junk item modified by an amateur.

In recent years, drum sets have been downsized due to constraints in transportation, setup space, and playing volume.
However, I feel the bass drum in the low frequencies, sound pressure, visuals, and kick pedal beater feel of a 22-inch bass drum more than in smaller diameter bass drums like 14 or 16 inches (this is purely my personal feeling).
Therefore, I created a slim 22-inch bass drum.

Improved transportability
① Being slim, it fits into half of a 22-inch bass drum case, with space left for toms, cymbals, pedals, etc.
② The front side is secured at four points for easy removal of the front head. By removing the front head during transport, more equipment can be stored in the bass drum case.

Improved setup space
The depth is approximately 10 inches (22 cm), half that of a conventional bass drum. It has less depth than a small-diameter bass drum.
Examples:
① Pearl's Rhythm Traveler version 3S bass drum has a 14-inch diameter and 12-inch depth.
② Products that convert 16-inch or 18-inch floor toms into bass drums often have a depth of 16 inches.

Countermeasure for playing volume constraints
The front head has no hole. If you were to make a hole yourself, it would be easier to insert muffling material inside the shell, allowing for volume adjustment by controlling the amount of muffling.

Other
The edge on the batter head side utilizes the original bass drum edge.
The cut side has been processed to be reasonably flat and smooth with a file.
Parts such as lugs, tension bolts, claws, and spurs were purchased new and used.
Spurs are used Tama products purchased used (Photos 3-6).
Lugs on the beater side, etc., are new purchases (Photo 7).
Lugs on the front side, etc., are used purchases (metal parts have rust and pitting) (Photo 8).
The hoops are wooden, purchased used, carefully sanded, and then coated three times with acrylic paint (Photos 9-10).
