Set aside.  Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy, add eggs one at a time, beating well after each one. Add lemon zest, juice and vanilla, beat until combined.  Add half of flour mixture and mix on low until combined. Add milk then remaining flour mix and beat just until combined.  Bake until a toothpick comes out clean, about 20 minutes.
