Tsuguharu Foujita "Cats" / Etching Copperplate Print / Sherman Collection

Purchased in October 2020 at the Fukuoka Art Museum in Fukuoka Prefecture, this item has been stored in a dark place without ever being displayed.

During storage, a scentless moth repellent was placed in the storage box, and the item was taken out of the box seasonally for ventilation and air-drying in the shade.

I have cherished this item for a long time, but due to various circumstances, I have decided to part with it.
I would like to pass it on to someone who will cherish and enjoy displaying it.

[Excerpt from Pamphlet]
This artwork is a tribute to Sherman's achievements, created from an original copperplate print gifted by Tsuguharu Fujita to Sherman as a token of friendship, with special permission from the copyright successor and ADAGP.

The pose of the cat in this artwork was also depicted in an oil painting (owned by the Gifu Prefectural Museum of Art), and it is presumed that this print, like the oil painting, was likely produced solely for display to particularly close friends.

In this print, the artist attempts to express the rich and varied texture of the cat's fur by meticulously layering fine lines. Fujita's signature on the copperplate print Cat is deeply and carefully engraved, suggesting the artist's special affection for this work.
