To produce a substantial number of 500 pieces with consistent quality, workshops managed the plates for the subject Hornneck Castle and sold them with serial numbers.
The etching (copperplate print) technique itself is very labor-intensive. The copper plate is etched, printed with a press, and then hand-colored one by one, giving it value as a craft item.
