About Kyosuke Chinai

Born in Ehime Prefecture in 1948, he graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School. Since the early 1980s, he has established a unique painting method using acrylic paints on Japanese paper, achieving an innovative form of expression that transcends the boundaries between Japanese and Western painting. His style, based on mono no aware (the pathos of things), utilizing traditional Japanese beauty such as costume patterns and the beauty of nature, creates Chinai's unique fantasy world in combination with his distinctive techniques. He has held solo exhibitions at Galerie Tamenaga in France in 2002, 2004, and 2019, and has captivated collectors worldwide, with many of his works being collected by the Rothschild family, one of Europe's foremost collectors. He has also won numerous awards, including the Yasui Prize, establishing an unshakeable position as a representative painter of the contemporary art world.
