Chagall Tribe of Benjamin (Lithograph Guaranteed)
In 1959, a Jewish synagogue was to be built on top of a hill called Hill of Judea west of Jerusalem, the capital of Israel. Chagall was commissioned by the synagogue to create stained glass windows. Chagall created 12 stained glass windows based on the theme of the 12 sons of Jacob and their descendants, the 12 tribes, as depicted in the Old Testament. To commemorate the completion of the stained glass windows, Chagall published the illustrated book Jerusalem Windows in 1962, featuring 14 original lithographs.
The item for sale is a framed print of Tribe of Benjamin removed from this illustrated book. Tribe of Benjamin is one of the 12 tribes.
(Judaism prohibits idol worship, so figures are not depicted; animals are drawn as symbols.)
