Solid sterling silver flat-handle piece with a distinctive wide, saber-like blade and ornate Rococo revival handle. The word “STERLING” is next to the classic Whiting Manufacturing Company trademark–a distinctive monogram “W” combined with a lion/griffin. The Gorham Manufacturing Company acquired a controlling financial interest in the Whiting Manufacturing Company in 1905, and later fully absorbed the company as a wholly-owned subsidiary in 1924. This knife is 7.5” in length, 2.26 oz in weight, has tarnish and scratches consistent with age. No dents or nicks. A truly unique piece for collectors of sterling. Serious offers considered.
