Ohno Bakufu Woodblock Print "Flying Fish" Ohno Bakufu 27 x 39.3

This is a woodblock print titled Flying Fish by Japanese artist Bakufu Ono (1888-1976).
This work was published in January 1938 as the 6th print in the first series of his representative work Illustrated Book of Japanese Fish (total 72 prints), which was published between 1937 and 1944.

Artwork Features:
Dynamic Depiction: Bakufu Ono frequently visited aquariums and even rode in submarines to observe fish underwater, in order to depict their ecology realistically.
Meticulous Technique: Produced using an extremely labor-intensive and precise technique called original color woodblock printing, 200-layer hand-rubbing, which realistically expresses the scales and texture of the fish.
Fantastical Background: In contrast to the realistic depiction of the fish, the background features stylized swirling waves, creating a unique, dreamlike atmosphere.
