117.48 $
Description
Letter from Naritatsu Hosokawa, 9th Lord of the Kumamoto Domain
Includes seal impression, folded paper, and wrapping paper.
Likely a get-well letter addressed to Shimotsuma Dai (a high-ranking official of Hongan-ji Temple).
I have received and read your esteemed letter from the 7th day of the past winter (December of the previous year), etc.
Despite being the lord of a major domain like Kumamoto, it is evident that he personally cared for a high-ranking official of Hongan-ji Temple.
Naritatsu Hosokawa
1797-1826 (died at age 30)
Junior Fourth Rank, Lower Grade, Senior Lieutenant of the Left Division of the Imperial Guard, Governor of Etchū
Married Kii-hime, sister of Shogun Ienari.
The Hosokawa family, lords of the Kumamoto Domain, adopted the title Governor of Etchū following the example of Tadaoki Hosokawa.
The item is in generally good condition with no insect damage, but shows signs of age consistent with its history.
