Description
This fourth-dan certificate, dated December 1, 1991 (Heisei 3), is of extremely rare value because Yasuharu Oyama (15th Meijin) passed away on July 26, 1992.
Makoto Nakahara (16th Meijin, then Meijin): The 16th Meijin with an overwhelming track record.
Koji Tanigawa (17th Meijin, then Ryuo): A star player who held the record for the youngest Meijin in history at the time.
Tatsuya Nifu (9th Dan, then Chairman): A renowned player also known as the teacher of Yoshiharu Habu, 9th Dan.
A certificate bearing the names of these three Eternal Meijin (Oyama, Nakahara, and Tanigawa) simultaneously is recognized for its value as a work of art and historical document among shogi fans and collectors.
Historical Background:
1991 (Heisei 3) was the peak of Koji Tanigawa's career, when he held the record for Youngest Meijin, and it was an extremely precious period when players who built the eras of both Nakahara and Oyama were gathered.
This certificate was received upon participating in the 45th All Japan Amateur Shogi Meijin Tournament.
The paulownia box has scratches, as can be seen in the images, and the price has been adjusted to reflect the box as a complimentary item.
