Furo Saki Byobu (brazier screen) by Fujita Kando, former head priest of Daitokuji Unrin-in Murasaki-no. Signed, Zen phrase, gourd illustration, paper box.
This item was put up for sale at the request of the family, as the elderly individual who was moving into a facility had mentioned they were entrusted with the tea ceremony utensils of someone they respected. The Zen phrase is said to be related to the teachings of Zen, which also connect to the Way of Tea, meaning to become one with another's feelings. The seller is not fully knowledgeable about this.
Additionally, it features a drawing of a gourd, which is considered auspicious.
The furosaki byobu (folding screen for tea ceremony) bears the signature Seiko.
The overall piece is free of stains, but there were already small scratches on the mulberry wood frame when it was received (see photo 7).
It comes in a paper box.
