Purchased by my grandfather in China about 50 years ago.
It is carved with the character 寿 (longevity).
It is said to be an auspicious item, and he seems to have brought it back along with a hanging scroll called 百鳥朝鳴 (One Hundred Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix).
This item appears to have been stored away without being used.
The box has some damage.
