Brief Biography of Kato Shuson:
Real Name: Kato Takeo
May 26, 1905 – July 3, 1993
Haiku poet, born in Tokyo Prefecture.
Graduated from Tokyo University of Literature and Science (formerly Tokyo University of Education, now University of Tsukuba).
Studied under Shuson.
Was known as a member of the Ningen Tankyu-ha (Human Exploration School) along with Kusatao Nakamura and others.
Founded and presided over the magazine Kanrai in 1940.
Authored Basho's Excellent Haiku based on his research of Basho.
Received the Shako Prize for his haiku collection Maboroshi no Shika (The Phantom Deer).
His haiku collections include Hotaka, Nokoku, Maboroshi no Shika, and Yuki Okoshi.
