Vintage Italian Florentine Gold Jewelry Box with Zodiac Constellation Lid

A charming piece of mid-century Italian craftsmanship, this Florentine-style jewelry box is a great piece. The hinged lid is decoupaged with a stunning celestial star map featuring all 12 zodiac constellations with illustrated signs and date borders. The body is finished in the classic Florentine gold gilt style with carved acanthus scroll motifs on the four front drawer-style panels and round brass knob pulls. The box rests on four turned bun feet. It is lined in red with a small inset mirror on the lid, and a hidden compartment below the tray. A wind-up music box mechanism is built into the base (note: I am unable to turn the winding mechanism — sold as-is for use as a jewelry box or restoration.) A small oval label on the base reads Made in Japan, consistent with quality Florentine-style gift goods exported in the 1950s–1970s. Condition: Good vintage condition with age-appropriate wear including gilding rubs, craquelure on the decoupage top, and minor paint loss. All structural elements are intact
