The part of a Japanese sword that is held by hand is called the tsuka-mae. This is an unused maintenance tool set consisting of a small hammer and a striking block used to remove it. See the 6th photo for an example of use.
Using a separately sold mekugi-nuki (pin puller), you strike the striking block with the small hammer as shown in the photo to remove the pin.
