The Krewe of Maskers in Montgomery, Alabama, was founded in 1946 and hosted its early annual signature Valentine sweetheart balls at the historic Montgomery City Auditorium around 1950, featuring traditional masked members in specialized regalia honoring local royalty. Established by Montgomery men in 1946. Held its inaugural formal ball in 1948, continuing tightly-knit annual celebrations into the 1950s at the municipal venue. Noted for distinct red, white, and silver decor. Participating men traditionally wore distinct masks and purple or colored cloaks to preserve anonymity during the festivities. Formed to celebrate Valentine's sweethearts, local kings, queens, and debutantes rather than a standard Mardi Gras street parade.
