By Gillian Beal, Photography by Jacob Termansen and Pia Marie Molbech

Tropical Style showcases 35 contemporary Malaysian homes and resorts that embrace indigenous cultural forms and cross-cultural influences in new and exciting ways.

The elegant, often breathtaking, homes, apartments, and resorts featured here evoke Malaysian Style – a contemporary tropical architecture that combines indigenous cultural forms, organic building materials, intricate local craftsmanship, and adaptations to the sun-drenched tropical climate. Reflecting the trend towards eco-friendly architecture, Malaysian homes have historically evolved to integrate environmental factors into designs that harmonize traditional building techniques with outdoor living.

All the spaces included here have been selected for their stunning design, originality of concept, and innovative fusion of age-old architectural patterns with contemporary aesthetics. The book celebrates the captivating multicultural eclecticism of modern Malaysia, highlighting minimalist homes in Kuala Lumpur, contemporary courtyard houses, wooden homes nestled in lush gardens, idyllic beach resorts, and luxurious residences modeled on traditional Chinese and Malay houses with Asian-inspired decor.

With over 350 stunning color photographs, Tropical Style: Contemporary Dream Houses in Malaysia will delight and inspire anyone wishing to apply these ideas to their own tropical house in any environment around the world.
