The sleeper limited express Suisei began service in October 1968 between Shin-Osaka Station and Miyazaki Station. Over time, its operating route was expanded and additional services were added, reaching a maximum of five round trips. Although the number of services began to decrease from 1975, the average passenger occupancy rate in 1989 recorded a high of 93%.
