Hayahisa Tomiyasu TTP First Photobook MACK First Book Award

【Product Description】

This is the first photobook by Japanese photographer Hayahisa Tomiyasu.

The photographs were taken from the window of a south-facing room on the 8th floor of the dormitory where the artist lived at the time in Leipzig, Germany.
The book captures a ping pong table in a park outside the window from a fixed viewpoint, using a deadpan style to quietly depict the passage of time, seasons, and the changing visitors to the park.

The title TTP stands for the German word tischtennisplatte (ping pong table).
This ping pong table transcends its original purpose, serving various roles such as a sunbathing spot, a skateboarding obstacle, a clothes drying rack, a children's plaything, a meeting place, and a refuge from the street, revealing a different face with each turn of the page.

Through the artist's long-term observation, the habits, humor, and individual temperaments inherent in human behavior emerge around this unassuming ping pong table.

This book was published following its win of the Grand Prize in the 2018 First Book Award, a program organized by the British publisher MACK to support artists without prior photobook publishing experience.
It was also nominated for the 44th (2018) Kimura Ihei Award.
