This is a very rare antique photograph of Mt. Bukō, a solitary peak towering over Chichibu City and Yokose Town in Saitama Prefecture.

It is one of Japan's 200 famous mountains and has long been an object of faith and reverence in the surrounding region.
The photograph is believed to have been taken sometime between the Meiji and early Taisho periods.

It is said that Mt. Bukō was not developed until the Taisho period, as it protected Chichibu from the Meiji era.

Development as a limestone quarry began in earnest in the late Taisho period.

This is likely a very rare, one-of-a-kind photograph of Mt. Bukō taken by an individual before quarrying began.
