Rare Indian Made "Ankus (Hook)" Elephant Whip, Long Weapon, Ancient Weapon, Vintage

73.92 $
Description
This is an Ankus (Tako), a training stick used by mahouts in the Indian cultural sphere to control and direct elephants, purchased by a relative in India about 40 years ago.

Total length: approx. 42.5 cm
Handle diameter: approx. 3.0 cm
Tip length: approx. 13.6 cm
Tip width: approx. 8.0 cm

In ancient times, longer versions with extended handles were apparently used as polearms, and in such cases, they were often called Ankus. However, it seems that today, when they are no longer used as weapons and are purely used as elephant training sticks, they are generally called Tako. (Apologies if I'm completely mistaken!)
Brass is used for the metal parts, and the handle is also lacquered, giving it a solid and luxurious feel. However, the tip is blunted, and the hook part is not sharpened and is made small overall, so it does not possess lethal capabilities. It is likely an item intended for use as a symbolic weapon for interior decoration.

Naturally, I am not a mahout and have no experience fighting in close combat in India, so this item is unused.
However, please note that as it is an item that has aged over time, the brass parts have developed discoloration due to age.
