[Description]
This is a Yatagan-style bayonet, which was adopted by the army before it became the Murata-style bayonet.
Yatagan-style bayonets were introduced along with firearms around the end of the Edo period and were used as bayonets for the Enfield and Snider rifles during the turbulent times of the late Edo period and early Meiji period.
A sixteen-petal double-layered chrysanthemum crest and Roman letters are stamped on the front and back of the base of the blade.
It feels like there might be a stamping on the bottom (Image 4), but it could also be scratches or dents, so it cannot be definitively determined.
The blade has been dulled and is a replica blade that cannot be used as a weapon as it will not cut even when pressed with a finger. All parts have been cut to less than 15cm, making them safe and free of any illegality.
It can be stored in the scabbard, but the stopper does not work. The scabbard has tears and dents due to age-related deterioration, and the tip is missing, so its condition is not good.
As this is an old item, please be aware that there may be scratches, dirt, rust, peeling, fading, and dust in small areas due to age and long-term storage.
