This is a Hakusan Tsumugi houmongi (visiting kimono) featuring a monochrome sprinkled paste-resist dyed fabric with dew-covered grass and geometric patterns. It's a stylish piece with a striking black and white contrast. What is Hakusan Tsumugi? It is a tsumugi textile woven in Shiramine Village, Ishikawa Prefecture. While the expensive Ushikubi Tsumugi is woven from hand-spun yarn, Hakusan Tsumugi is woven using power looms and machine-spun yarn. Although the texture is very similar, it has a luxurious quality comparable to Ushikubi Tsumugi, with a lustrous finish, a sturdy weave, and excellent drape.
