This is a makiwara (tatami mat) for tameshigiri (test cutting) used in Iaido and Battodo.
This is the same type used in dojos.
Dimensions are approximately 90cm in length and 10cm in diameter (slight variations may occur).
Before performing tameshigiri, soak the makiwara in water. Once the entire makiwara is saturated, lightly drain the excess water before use.
Soaking time is typically around 1-2 days.
For hygiene reasons, please change the soaking water at least once a day to prevent insect infestation.
- Please note that not all makiwara will have the exact same dimensions or thickness.
