Iai sword (Izumi no Kami Kanesada) replica
Izumi no Kami Kanesada also forged straight temper lines, choji temper lines, and choji-yakudare temper lines. Kanesada was unusual among ancient swordsmiths in receiving an official title (Izumi no Kami) and inscribed (Izumi no Kami Kanesada) on the tang of his swords.
Among Seki swords, his work is the most technically rich, resembling Naoe Shizu and Soshu swords.
It is not inferior to, but rather superior to, the famous孫六兼元 (Magoroku Kanemoto) of Seki. Izumi no Kami Kanesada is also renowned as a master swordsmith of the highest grade.
This particular sword, unusually for a practice sword, features a yakudare temper line on the blade.
The name comes from the yakuhazu (arrowhead notch) of an arrow. Upon close inspection of this sword, you can faintly see small, vertical thread-like patterns appearing within the yakudare.
The mounting is befitting of a Kanesada sword.
The scabbard is unusually rare for a practice sword, featuring a carved sasa (bamboo leaf) pattern. The handle is made of period-style ray skin with period-style dark blue twisted ito wrapping, and an iron tsuba (double plum blossom and diamond pattern) as period mounting.
It exudes an atmosphere truly befitting of Kanesada.
There is no rattling of the tsuba or scabbard.
Recommended for iai practitioners with dan ranks or collectors.
