A sailing ship model made with tortoiseshell (Bekko) fine craftsmanship, a traditional craft of Nagasaki.
It is inspired by Oranda-sen (Dutch ships) and Takara-bune (Treasure ships), and is characterized by the beautiful, unique patterns of tortoiseshell, which is processed from turtle shells.
Nagasaki has a history of being the only port allowed to trade with the Netherlands during Japan's period of isolation in the Edo period, and due to this connection, models of Dutch ships have become a representative subject for tortoiseshell craftsmanship.
Uses: Displayed in a glass case as a good luck charm or antique interior decoration.
